Short Description:
A study of Romanian pet owners found gender-biased attitudes toward the sterilization of their pets, emerging only when the gender of the animal was considered. Romanian men more frequently disagreed with the neutering of male pets compared with Romanian women, although no gender distinctions were found with respect to the spaying of female pets.
Abstract:
The attitudes of 312 Romanian pet caretakers of non-sterilized companion animals were surveyed prior to the implementation of a pet management program in Transylvania. Based on this data, researchers found evidence of a gender-biased attitude among pet caretakers toward the sterilization of their own pets where the sex of the animals was considered. Romanian men disagreed more frequently than Romanian women with the neutering of male pets. This gender-based difference in opinion was not present with respect to the spaying of female pets.
