More Information...

Short Description:
This article discusses the fox population within urban settings in Great Britain. Population estimates are included along with certain relevant statistics; for example, the spring garden watch survey by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) found that about 40% of people living in urban areas reported seeing a fox in their garden, compared with about 23% in the countryside.

Abstract:
At the beginning of 2010, experts estimated the total national fox population in Britain was about 200,000 to 250,000, with about 15% living in urban areas and 30,000 in London alone. During the spring, experts predict that the population will rise to 400,000 to 450,000 foxes and then fall again to the 200,000 to 250,000 level by the end of the year.
Certain problems arise when the fox population mixes with human populations, including the digging up of lawns and loss of companion animals due to the predatory nature of foxes.
