Short Description:
Nearly half (49%) of U.S. adults believe that at least some of the affected beaches from the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill will never recover; 59% believe that, for at least some animal species, normal population levels will never be restored.
Abstract:
In more detailed survey results, U.S. adults predicted the recovery time of wildlife impacted by the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico to be:
- Four years or less (11%)
- Five to nine years (7%)
- Ten or more years (20%)
- Never (59%)
- No opinion (3%)
Based on the survey results, women are clearly more pessimistic about the recovery time of wildlife when compared with men. Following is the estimated recovery time for wildlife, by gender:
- Up to nine years (Men - 21%, Women - 15%)
- Ten or more years (Men - 24%, Women - 17%)
- Never (Men - 52%, Women - 65%)
