Abstract:
Highlights from the 2010 findings (available here):
- 211,764 animals were used in research at UBC in 2010
- About 2% of the animals used were mammals, totaling 4,084 mammals
- The most frequently used animals were rats and mice (118,184 animals/ 56% of all animals used) and fish (74,475 animals/ 35% of all animals used)
- About 68% of animals were used in research that falls under Category B and C, which are considered to cause less than minor or short-term stress.
