Abstract:
Animal research is a subject of controversy in biomedical science and the importance of public opinion in the debate has increased in recent years. Public opinion polls are frequently cited as a type of resource when addressing the issue, as it is accepted as a key method of showing legitimacy. This paper considers whether public opinion should matter when it comes to matters of ethical reasoning and science policy.
