Short Description:
This survey finds that the level of support among Canadian adults for genetically modified (GM) fish and other animals has decreased since 2006. Respondents cite a perception that government oversight and regulation of biotechnology has "eroded" their lack of support of GM animals.
Abstract:
Survey Highlights:
- 37% do not agree with GM fish, a 13% increase from 2006
- 29% do not approve of any GM animals under any circumstance, an increase of 8% from 2006
- About a quarter of respondents (23%) indicate they have no confidence in the Canadian government to regulate GM fish
- Though in 2006 almost a quarter of Canadians approved of GM fish as long as government regulation was in place, in 2011 only 13% approved
