Short Description:
A brief survey of Virginia voters examined attitudes toward fox penning and whether there is support in the state to pass legislation banning the practice. The survey found most are opposed the practice and a majority support legislation to ban fox penning in the state of Virginia.

Abstract:
Fox pens are enclosures in which hunters have dogs compete to chase down foxes and other animals. Packs of dogs chase the fox and are judged on various criteria during the chase. Trapped or caught animals may be killed by the dogs during the competition.
Sixty-eight percent of Virginia voters surveyed opposed fox penning and only 8% supported it. These results were consistent across political parties. Half (51%) of respondents also said they would support legislation banning the practice, while only 25% said they would oppose such legislation.
